UMC ReTech, a division of Universal Mfg. Co., has invested in an automated photo booth to provide customers with 360° photograph technology. The capital investment will provide customers and end-users a much better view of what they're going to buy, as they can digitally spin every product in 360 degrees to see multiple angles and critical details. This capability enables ReTech to provide intuitive, B2B and B2C e-commerce experiences that its customers have grown to expect.

UMC Publishes Second Quarter Report

Universal Mfg. Co. (UMC) released its FY2018 Second Quarter Report today. President & CEO Tom Hance stated, “As an organization we continue to be disappointed with internal and external delays occurring in multiple large scale projects. These delays have put pressure on our results. Universal Mfg. Co. Releases First Quarter Report

Universal Mfg. Co. released its FY2018 First Quarter Report today. Overall lower than anticipated sales across all product lines impacted the divisions’ ability to absorb variable indirect manufacturing costs and SG&A. Production delays continue to have a negative impact. Sales decreased 25% year over year with an operating loss of $979 Thousand for the quarter. Tom Hance, President & CEO said, “We are disappointed about the first quarter numbers and delays in production. Focus for the remainder of 2018 is on increasing booked orders and improving manufacturing efficiencies. We believe this strategy will allow for growth in revenue and income improvement.”

UMC announces the promotion of Ken Kraus to president of UMC Retech. Ken joined the ReTech team in January 2016 as Director of Sales. In this role, Ken improved the quality of ReTech’s distribution network, developed a professional sales culture, and built a foundation for future revenue growth. His extensive sales experience, business knowledge and passion for people has been evident from the day he joined our team.

UMC Retech Hires Jeremy Boatman as Director of Operations

Jeremy comes to us with more than 20 years of management experience. Most recently as a Multi Plant Manager for Harsco in Kansas and Missouri. Jeremy’s experience working with both natural resources (materials) as well as human resources allowed him to move key metrics (financials and SPMs) significantly to the positive over a two year period. Jeremy focuses on Lean techniques, such as decreasing shrinkage and increasing efficiencies.

He worked for Ametek for 19 years in a variety of roles with progressive responsibility, with his last role at Ametek being Operations/Manufacturing Manager. Pete then held roles as Director, Operations for Johnson Outdoors, Inc. and Plant manager for Greenheck Fan Corporation. Just prior to joining us he was the Plant Manager for Southeastern Metal Products in Charlotte.

Doug Brown Appointed V.P. of Business Development and Program Management for UAD & MWM

Doug has over 39 years of combined experience in the military, Department of Defense (DoD) program management and industry. Doug has a well-founded background in Concept Development, Technology Assessment, Operations Research and Development, Intelligence & Information Operations, DoD Acquisition, Business Development and Financial Management. Additionally, Doug is Defense Acquisition Work Force Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level III certified in Program Management.

Universal Mfg. Co. (UFMG) released its Annual Report and Proxy Statement for fiscal year ending July 31, 2017 today. Overall lower than anticipated sales across all product lines impacted the divisions’ ability to absorb variable indirect manufacturing costs and SG&A. Sales decreased 36% year over year with an operating loss of $2.9 Million. Tom Hance, President & CEO said, “2017 was a pivotal year in further defining our brands and our approach to those brands. We confirmed and expanded our long-term strategy around all divisions. We believe this strategy will allow for growth in revenue and income improvement in 2018.”

Jim Cluck Appointed President of Metal Works Mfg. and Ultra Armoring and Defense

Universal Mfg. Co. is pleased to announce Mr. James W. Cluck, Jr. has accepted the critical role of President of Metal Works Mfg. Co. and Ultra Armoring & Defense. Jim will be based in Shelby, NC. Jim has over 41 years of combined military and civilian Federal service including over 29 years experience in Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition.

A member of the Senior Executive Service, Jim served as the Acquisition Executive (AE) and the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), MacDill Air Force Base, FL. As the AE from 2009-2013, he had responsibility for all Special Operations Forces (SOF) research, development, acquisition, procurement, and logistics programs as well as management of the SOF Acquisition Workforce Enterprise. As the CIO from 2005-2009, he was responsible for the business planning, fielding, operations and performance of all SOF garrison and tactical information technology systems as well as standards, interoperability and network migration of systems comprising the world-wide SOF Information Environment.

Universal Mfg. Co. Hires Trey Bajat as Director of Supply Chain for Metal Works Mfg. Co.

Trey comes directly from Franks International where he held the role of Tubular Supply Chain Manager. In that role, Trey reduced inventory levels over $95M. He also supported the largest year of Tubular Revenues for 2015. Additionally, he managed international tubular procurement that produced $16M in savings. Trey also brings prior experience as Director of Operations/Supply Chain with Cherokee Consultants International and Supply Chain Manager of Kodiak Pipe. Amongst Trey’s accomplishments, he also successfully implemented procedures that forced a culture change in scheduling fabrication for facilities, and developed a team with skill sets advancing a high-performance culture.

Universal Mfg. Co. Hires Ashlei Howell as Marketing Specialist

August 9, 2017

Ashlei came directly from her own consulting firm, Goldilocks Marketing Solutions. She created and maintained websites using a variety of platforms, and created and redesigned manuals, ads and other marketing materials for a variety of industries. She also conducted market research and other analyses, as well as branding and re-branding. Upon the launch of her business, she landed a contract with Masport, Inc. As a result of her impact, Masport offered her a role as Administration & Marketing Officer in their Corporate office. In that role, she created many ads for Pumper and Pro national magazines. Her primary focus was refreshing an outdated brand image to appeal to their end users. Ashlei also held the Marketing Director role at Belmont Chiropractic Clinic prior to launching her own business. Among her achievements, she increased patient enrollment to the highest rate in seven years.

Universal Mfg. Co. Releases Third Quarter Report

Universal Mfg. Co. (UFMG) released its FY 2017 Third Quarter Report today. Sales for the quarter were $12.20 Million compared to $7.14 Million for the same period last year. The consolidated operations reported a net loss of $215 Thousand for the quarter, a loss of $.24 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $1.27 Million for the same period the prior year. Tom Hance, President & CEO said, “The third quarter of FY 2017 can be summarized by improving operational performance and cost control across all entities, which is driving down the breakeven sales number and leveraging SGA.” Hance continued, “The reorganization of splitting Ultra Armoring/Metal Works from Man Lift is already showing signs of improved operational excellence in Man Lift with COGS approaching pre-acquisition levels. Ultra Armoring/Metal Works continue to focus heavily on securing the next variant for Department of State awards. As we near the end of FY 2017 and head into FY 2018 we foresee continued revenue improvement across all entities.”

Universal Mfg. Co. (UFMG) released its FY 2017 Second Quarter Report today. Sales for the quarter were $10.41 Million compared to $16.43 Million for the same period last year. The consolidated operations reported a net loss of $341 Thousand for the quarter, $.38 per diluted share, compared to net loss of $146 Thousand for the same period the prior year. Tom Hance, President & CEO said, “The first half of FY 2017 can be summarized by lower than expected sales, improving operational performance and cost control. Sales were lower due to timing delays by customers at Metal Works and Ultra Armoring and slower ramp up of new programs at UMC ReTech. Much of the sales were not lost; just moved out in the second half of the year.” Hance continued: “All entities continue to react well to lagging sales with increased factory efficiencies and cost control in variable indirect and SG&A costs. We remain optimistic for the balance of fiscal year 2017.”

Universal Mfg. Co. Releases First Quarter Report

December 14, 2016

Universal Mfg. Co. (UFMG) released its FY 2017 First Quarter Report today. Sales for the quarter were $10.39 Million compared to $38.58 Million for the same period last year. The consolidated operations reported a net loss of $259 Thousand for the quarter, $.29 per diluted share, compared to net gain of $2.77 Million for the same period the prior year. Results were improved over the prior quarter and production was more consistent. Don Dunn, President & CEO said, “The Quarter was pretty much as anticipated; we started off slow in August but ramped up and have seen operations improve and sales generate a decent backlog. Both Man Lift and Metal Works saw sales improve, Ultra Armoring sales improved from our prior quarter and UMC ReTech had an improved Quarter at operating profit.” Dunn continued: “From a sales perspective, we continue to work diligently on new opportunities in all of our operations. Operationally we have really concentrated on the basics, blocking and tackling, and are seeing solid improvement. We remain optimistic for the balance of fiscal year 2017.”
